The successful conduct of the Australian Army Cadets (AAC) youth development program requires the support of volunteer adults. Many of these adults are formally accepted to be members of the AAC as either Officers or Instructors of Cadets (OOC / IOC). However, a larger number of adults choose to help the AAC but either cannot, or choose not to, be formally accepted as an Officer of Cadets / Instructor of Cadets. The AAC regards these adults as "Defence Approved helpers"
