Firearms Training
Firearms’ training is a unique experience offered to AAC Cadets which has been influenced by the military traditions and culture.
The aim of Cadet Firearms training is to enable members to develop the knowledge, skills and attitude to handle, maintain, operate and fire the firearms during the conduct of range practices. On an important note it also teaches cadets involved in the training, respect for firearms and the safety requirements for handling a firearm.
Firearms’ training involves each cadet undertaking a test of elementary training prior to shooting the firearm and then once at the point where the firearm is discharged the cadet will ALWAYS have a trained Australian Defence Force (ADF) member next to them as a coach. The ADF members are trained as coaches on the range as well as being experts on the firearm. At no stage is any cadet left on the range with a firearm without a coach.
Cadets will need to be able to have the physical strength to be able to operate the weapon and will be exposed to loud noises.
Hearing protection is worn at all times on the range, however the loudness of the firearm firing may initially cause anxiety in some Cadets who have not been exposed to firearms previously.
